“Hitting all the right notes” (Kidderminster Shuttle: 24.3.2016), and “Musicians in tune to reach National Finals” (Express and Star 24.3.2016) sum up how the local press described the band’s achievement, under the baton of its dynamic musical director, Oliver Wilson. This was 2nd place at the Midland Regional Brass Band Championships (3rd Section) for a place in the National Brass Band Championships in Cheltenham in September 2016.
Stourport on Severn Brass Band is a versatile and friendly band of players. Performing a diverse programme of music from traditional to fun contemporary arrangements, the band entertains audiences, supports local initiatives and raises funds for good causes at concerts and events throughout the county and beyond.
With over 45 years’ experience, the band is proud of its rich heritage. Notable ocassions have been in 1999 being chosen to play in the stage version of ‘Brassed Off’ at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and then honoured to be further involved in the exciting production of the show at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in May 2003. In July 2008 we were delighted to play at The Flow Festival celebrating the refurbishment of Stourport’s canal basins.
The band continues to build on its success and to be a valuable part of the local community. Players are drawn from Worcestershire and further afield. We rehearse at Stourport Sports Club every Tuesday and new players are always welcome to join.
