Partnership Scheme in Conservation Areas

English Heritage, has approved funding worth over £144,000 over the next three years for a conservation project in Stourport-on-Severn.

The funding bid, led by Wyre Forest District Council sets out proposals to assist in the regeneration of Bridge Street, Stourport, by offering grants for the repair of historic buildings and reinstatement of historic architectural detailing. The Council, which is also providing match funding, will manage the project in partnership with Bewdley Development Trust.

This newly funded conservation project falls under the objectives of the Adopted Wyre Forest District Local Plan which are to preserve and enhance conservation areas, the District’s Listed Buildings and safeguard the particular characteristics of the District.

Specific benefits of the new English Heritage funding will mean that many owners of properties within Bridge Street will be eligible for grants of up to 60% of the cost to help repair their historic properties to a high standard, and up to 80% of the cost to reinstate elements including traditional style shopfronts.

High quality shop front design plays an important part in the viability and vitality of shopping areas. Poor visual character is a disincentive to both visitors and prospective investors.
