Lest We Forget
On November 8th & 9th 2018 the village of Areley Kings is putting on a play, in the church called, ‘LEST WE FORGET’ it tells the story of how Areley Kings raised £235 to build a war memorial to the 14 young men from the village, killed in the war. One of the cast has made a replica of the memorial and we are going to build this in the church during the play and also tell the stories of the soldiers who returned.
In 2014 we put on a play in the church to tell the story of our village in WW1. We could do this because we have the Parish Magazines, written by Daniel Vawdrey, the Rector at that time, and because we had researched the lives of the 14 young men from the village who had been killed. We gave the profits from the play to Battle Back a charity which helps service men & women who have been injured mentally or physically in combat.
We realised that in 1918 there was nothing to help returning soldiers except their families. So we are putting on this play to raise money for Battleback. Please help us by coming to the play. Tickets, are £10. £5 for children and this includes a programme and light refreshments in the interval. Tickets from 01299 825791 or 01684 214037 or any member of the cast.
